Floral waters are the fragrant waters that are obtained through a steam distillation process from the different parts of the plant such as herbs, needles, leaves, woods, barks and seeds. This process involves heating up the plant material until vapors are formed. During the procedure, many active chemicals are released into the steam. When the steam is allowed to cool down, it turns back into liquid state which contains numerous therapeutic chemicals that are released from the plant. Some of the natural chemicals are ‘oily’ therefore separated out from the water – resulting in the formation of essential oils. While other chemicals dissolved into the water which produces distillate, hydrosol or hydrolate.  

Distillates or Hydrosols are considered as the by-product of distillated essential oils and are becoming a staple in the body and skin care industry. They are no longer used in the aromatherapy treatments as it has been discovered that distillates are an effective way to deliver miraculous benefits to the cosmetic industry. Moreover, they have garnered huge acceptance as a vital form of ingredient in the products ranging from body care, cooking to fragrant mists.
