The Costus root essential oil is beneficial in the treating numerous respiratory problems such as asthma, cough and bronchitis. The essential oil of Costus root has a persistent smell with hints of woodiness. This essential oil comes in hues of Light yellow to brown with a viscous consistency. It is derived through the process of steam distillation from the dried roots of the Saussurea lappa (also known as Costus Root, Kut Root, Kushtha, and Mu Xiang). Saussurea lappa is a native of alpine habitats in the Himalaya and central Asia. It grows well on the moist slopes of the Himalayas at height of 8000-12000 feet.
